ARIS Saturday Arabic Programme
Saturday Arabic Programme
The ARIS Saturday Arabic programme was founded in 1997 to provide quality Islamic and Arabic language education to the children of the Arab communities in Accra. Since it started it has helped hundreds of students learn Arabic in both mainstream and as a foreign language.
The students learn Arabic language, religious studies and recitation of the Holy Quran. The idea was initiated to satisfy the need of many Arab families to teach their children their mother tongue and the teachings of Islam.
The school operates every Saturday from 9am to 12pm. It started with 45 students in four classes consisting of two nursery classes and two primary classes located in a small rented house. From this humble beginning, it has grown into a school with 115 children in 10 mainstream classes and 2 special stream classes located on the primary campus of Al-Rayan International School.
During its nineteen years of operation, the school has attracted students from many nationalities such as Lebanese, Egyptians, Syrians, Algerians, Moroccans, Emiratis, as well as Ghanaians, Malaysians, Malians, and South Africans.
During the past years, there was a continuous drive to upgrade the curriculum used at the school. The teaching methods compare with the international methods of teaching used in modern schools. The curriculum adopted for the mainstream Arabic language is one of the best curriculums that is widely used in international schools in the Middle East and Gulf areas.
In addition, the Saturday Arabic Programme has access to a variety of resources and teaching aids. For the special stream (Arabic as a Foreign Language) classes for non-Arabic speaking children, a new international curriculum was also adopted. Furthermore, teaching techniques and training sessions are continuously being organized for teachers.
